Vita sene libertate nihil
It is common in Ukraine when you are moving from your parents’ home in your 20s to a separate flat, sometimes even to another city. It is common when you can find lots of options and choose the best according to your requirements. Unfortunately, the situation with accommodation in Sweden is absolutely opposite. Generally, people share rooms in flats, even rooms for several persons due to lack of accommodation, not money. If Swedes have free room or flat to sub-rent they firstly ask their friends, instead of looking for someone unknown. That’s why it’s incredibly hard to find some apartments if you don’t know anyone here. Moreover, I have been checking specialized websites and found no more than 5 possibilities each time. In a 2 million international city… Secondly, apartments in the city center are unbelievable expensive – 20m2 flat with small kitchen would cost more than 400 000 euro. And there is no shortage of willing to buy one. That’s why lots of people here live outside the city, spending lots of time to get to work and return back home. It’s OK to spend 1 hour in one direction every day. And I experienced all this. This month I was quite lucky to live only 20 mins far away to city center by metro. Situated in the city suburb, Husby region is surrounded by parks and fields creating a lot of space for jogging or just going for a walk. I used to jog in the night and it was really great! I was sharing 3 room flat with the another EVS volunteers. Living 2 mins to metro, in a big flat with all conveniences and every week parties made this place really memorable and special for me. But life goes on and I need to change apartments again, just as many locals do due to a lack of permanent accommodation. JUST A BURNT MOTORBIKE SOMEWHERE AT HUSBY... IT'S SAFE TO LIVE THERE, DON'T TAKE IT SERIOUS :dTomorrow I am moving outside the city to my permanent (I hope) living place. I really liked that place when I saw it for the first time – several houses, built in a circle, creating an illusion of a separate town. This place is situated on an island with lots of parks, fields and forest. Add some lakes and rivers and you will see really magic and inspiring place to live.
